In this research paper, compact and slotted patch antenna geometry of size (30.8 × 37.2 mm) has been designed and investigated at frequency 3.30 GHz. The proposed antenna covers 2.08–3.99 GHz frequency band suitable for S-band (2–4 GHz) wireless communication. The proposed geometry of antenna design consist two notches and one vertical slot. The bandwidth of antenna is enhanced gradually by cutting notches and slot in antenna patch. The variation made in antenna structure enhanced the antenna bandwidth and antenna resonating at frequency 3.29 GHz near design frequency. The proposed antenna exhibits impedance bandwidth of 62.9% (1910 MHz) resonating at 3.29 GHz with peak gain of 4.7 dB at frequency 3.89 GHz. Resonating frequency band of antenna is applicable for WLAN/WiMAX. Microstrip line fed antenna geometry is fabricated and simulated through IE3D simulation tool.

The success of this development inspired researchers to continue the study to other bands and other applications, such as Wi-Fi at 5.8 GHz. Wi-Fi applications need small antennas that lead to the diminution of RLSA antennas. Small-RLSA antennas experienced high reflection due to the small number of slots. One of the techniques that effectively eliminates the reflection was developed and named as extreme beamsquint technique. Several researches have successfully developed small-RLSA antennas by implementing this technique for Wi-Fi applications. Furthermore, for the future, it is possible to widen the researches to other frequencies and other features of RLSA antennas such as multibeam, multiband, and diminution by cutting off RLSA antennas.

This work purports a unique reconfigurable antenna with a compact and simple structure and functions at two different frequencies viz 5GHz (Wi-Fi applications) and 28GHz (mmWave 5G) making it very suitable for present day mobile applications. The antenna structure comprises of two patches viz a main radiating circular patch and one subsidiary rectangular patch which is connected to the main radiating patch through a PIN diode. In the OFF mode of the PIN diode, the antenna operates at 5GHz and in the ON mode of the PIN diode, the antenna radiates at 28GHz. The antenna is imprinted on FR4 material with the relative permittivity of 4.4 and the total footprint of 30×30×1.6 mm3. The antenna exhibits an excellent gain for both the desired frequencies.

In this paper, a circular slot loaded circular monopole antenna for ultrawideband circularly polarized applications is presented. The antenna consists of a circular radiator fed by a modified feedline and multiple slots loaded modified coplanar waveguide (CPW) ground plane. The ground plane is also loaded with quarter elliptical slot and semicircular stub to achieve circular polarization. The overall dimensions of the proposed antenna are 17×20 mm2. The antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 4.41-14.0 GHz (104.2%) and axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 5.87-13.66 GHz (79.77%). It has a peak gain of 5.34 dBi. The proposed antenna provides right hand circularly polarized (RHCP) radiation patterns along +z axis. It has advantages of compact dimensions, wide impedance bandwidth and wide axial ratio bandwidth over previously reported structures.
